April 2010 was an incredible month for me. On April 4th, I had the opportunity to perform in Washtington D.C. at Howard University’s Cramton Auditorium. The show was called The Soul Symphony and it was historic because a 24-piece orchestra backed soul music legend, Roberta Flack and young lions of soul, Eric Roberson, N’Dambi, Navasha Daya, Marva King and ME! We performed classic soul songs and neo-soul originals in front of hundreds of music fans of all ages. Thanks to promoters Rick Cook and Ron Smith I had a blast singing songs in tribute to Gladys Knight and Isaac Hayes. I was also great to speak to college and high school kids in D.C. about life and music.
Most of April found me needing to stay close to Atlanta so that I could continue to work on the new cd, LISTEN. I was able to perform at Georgia State University’s Rialto Theatre (thanks Leon) and at three private events including The Georgian Terrace, The Ellis Hotel and The Perimeter Marriott.
May is already starting out great as we are re-launching my website (Thanks to Ed, Shomari, Sid, and Ron). Got to sing praises for my team!!! Can you see me doing my “happy dance” right now? Saturday, May 8th finds me at Majic in the Park Music Festival in Suwanee, GA (sponsored by Majic 107.5/97.5FM). This is my second year performing on this great free show. I go on at 2pm so please, come party with me.
May is also the month that my mother and I get our vegetable garden going again (green beans, herbs, tomatoes, peppers, zuccini, etc), as part of our Mother’s Day celebration. I’m also looking forward to the kick off of super-summer performances. Please keep checking the GIGS page because we will be hitting stages in New Haven, CT, New York, NY, Baltimore, MD, Jacksonville, FL, St. Mary’s Island, GA, Atlanta, Ga and hopefully a lot more.
This is a wonderful journey and I want to share it with everyone. That is why I am starting this “public” diary. Join in on the dialogue and let me what you think!
